On February 7, 2008, the Napa Valley Coalition of Nonprofit Agencies transformed the first floor of the Napa Valley Opera House into a sensuous cabaret and presented its Third Annual Mid-Winter Madness Party and Talent Show, a free thank you event for the employees of all of its 60 member agencies. The evening included a talent show! And what a show it was! It featured 12 acts from among the Coalition membership and a chance for other members to see their friends and colleagues do things they never dreamed they could do.
Sherry Tennyson, Executive Director of the American Canyon Family Resource Center introduced the talented participants:
Tracy Lamb, Executive Director of Napa Emergency Womens Services, reprised her amazing 2006 Mid-Summer Madness baton twirling act, this time with four NEWS backup dancers.
Roberta Goodin, founder and Executive Director of NapaLit, reading poetry.
Tucker Crosby of Vine Village and his son, Madison, playing guitar and Madison singing a song he wrote.
Juanita Pena, Parent Partner, ParentsCAN, performing a solo dance entitled “One Night With The King”.
Lori Pesavento, Executive Director of Family Service of Napa Valley, playing an original composition on the viola.
Chuck Mottern, Program Director, Buckelew Programs, singing an original composition and playing the guitar.
Lola Cornish, Resources and Referral Manager, Community Resources for Children, and her daughter, Mimi, singing a song they wrote about nonprofits entitled “Down By The Bay”.
Mike Kerson, founder and Executive Director of Vine Village, playing the flamenco guitar.
Saanen Kerson, Mike’s daughter and Associate Director at Vine Village, playing Zydeco accordion and fiddle. She was joined by friend and professional musician, Jeffery Broussard, legendary Louisiana-based Zydeco musician and leader of Jeffery Broussard and the Creole Cowboys.
Chris Piper, Executive Director, Volunteer Center of Napa Valley, singing and playing jazz guitar.
Colin O’Haire, Administrative Assistant, the Coalition, reading a poem he composed.
Doris Smith, Board Member, Napa TV, singing several songs and accompanying herself on the dulcimer.
The evening concluded with all the musicians and entertainers, joined by the audience, singing and dancing to a rousing rendition of “My Girl” and other songs.
